A challenge facing any online advertiser is knowing where to place ads so people will see them. Posting ads on low traffic sites doesn't increase your business and posting ads on high traffic sites costs some bucks. With eBay, things are a little different. You have just as much opportunity to draw attention to your eBay store as others.
eBay has incredible market share, oftentimes referred to as an Internet colossus ... probably only those in remote parts of the Sudan don't know the name and what the company does. What might surprise you is the company was started as a site to sell Pez dispensers. Fast forward a few years, and the company is an icon for nearly everything under the sun ... well, except for organs, sex toys, and family (no, you can't sell your family ... for obvious reasons).
The company's incredible success is the nucleus to attracting millions in new retailers and shoppers each year. So, advertising your eBay business can make the difference between nominal, somewhat passive sales, and a "virtual machine" that is a cash cow.
Posting Ads
Why worry about posting ads on separate sites when you are already located on one of the most trafficked sites on the web? While advertising on eBay isn't free, you are guaranteed that the people who want your product are the ones seeing your ad.
On the eBay homepage, you can find links to their Listing Upgrades site (http://pages.ebay.com/sell/listingupgrades/). This allows you to select some options to help your product gain visibility. From printing your listing in bold or adding a border, picture, or highlight, to listing your product on their “Featured Items” page, there is a wealth of options that can subtly increase your sales.

Use Listing Upgrades to Your Advantage
This is also where you can upgrade your listing to include more pictures, a unique layout, a slide show and more. The prices vary depending on the service but many of the services can be bundled at a reduced price.
In addition to the options offered directly from eBay, there are other things you can do to tweak your sales.· Pick a user name that is easy to spell and remember, yet avoid a name that pigeonholes you into a specific product line*. Unless you plan to sell the same products throughout the entire existence of your business, you might want to pick a name that is vague or universal.
*On the flip side, people who buy from you may want to buy again, therefore, your name could reflect what you sell if your product is highly specific. But again, think about your current and future product model. Will you always offer the same genre of products or will you transition? Your answer will help determine the best user name.· Write and fine-tune an "About Me" page. This page should include links to your auctions, be easy to read, and contain important information in a concise way. The about me page could include details relevant to your payment terms, return policy, your rating policy relevant to used items, and details about you and your business.
· Create a simple, clear logo. For the same reason that your username should be easy to remember, your logo should be unique and memorable. What might surprise you is that logos are oftentimes simple in nature. Research online logos to see that text is oftentimes the dominating aspect of logos ... yet, there may also be a graphic or visual aspect added. Don't over think or over-develop your logo.
· Use a template to create your pages. Uniform pages that are consistent across your auctions, and distinct from the offerings of other sellers, is another great way to increase your identification as the seller. It's also a huge time saver. Templates will also ensure you integrate important details relevant to your sales processes too.
· Create a website that is connected to your eBay username. Use this site to list your auctions and link yourself to other similar pages belonging to people who are not in direct competition with you. Include an email address that has the same username as well and use it for any correspondence regarding your products.
· Become part of a professional eBay seller's group. Not only will you gain better exposure but you can list this credential on your "About Me" page to gain trust from your buyers. Being part of a community will also open you up to networking, which has long been a great way to broaden your knowledge.
· Offer sales or early buy options to previous customers. By creating a mailing list of old buyers, you can notify them of new products before or when they are listed --- carefully read eBay's terms of use policy first. You don't want to violate eBay's policies at any time.
Depending on your product, targeting former customers could draw added attention to current and future auctions somewhat creating a "following" to your online store as well.Additional articles ...
